Shed

Another extension to an existing setting: a basic open living space with electricity, attached to the back of a billboard which was part of a major construction project on that site. The idea behind this intervention was to build a lunch room for Eastern European (guest) workers who slept on mattresses at the back of the building site. It’s important to mention that the names of the investors and contractors were listed on the front of the billboard, along with the high investment figures. In between the price tags, one could see silhouettes coming from the white lit backside. Both the lighting and support system at the back were a duplicate of the front, creating an upside-down replica attached to the original structure. Therefore, the existing wooden structure of the billboard also supported the platform, a lunchroom at a construction site. Anyone could freely enter this social sculpture and take a seat in ‘The Shed’.
