Three run-down truck tires are stacked on top of each other, forming the shape of a well. The brick-like color is red lead, a rust-resistant paint. Inside, a one-sided mirror suggests a layer of water, but in combination with hidden lights, it creates the illusion of a bottomless pit. The wishing well as an archetypal symbol of how a wish, a projection for the future, gives an indication of the present. The play on words with the famous car tire manufacturer takes on a remarkable additional meaning as this work was made in January 2020, completely unaware of the ‘good year’ ahead.
